I started my career at Google and while there, I saw a people-focused culture that emphasized the impact great managers had. Based on their Project Oxygen research, they found that great managers lead higher performing teams. To support this, they had regular upward feedback, ample training & resources, and celebrated great managers across the company.
Since leaving, I’ve learned how rare that culture is. I founded HUMN Capital to challenge this status quo and improve manager effectiveness at scale.
I believe that great managers will not only increase employee engagement & productivity - but will help retain more women in the workforce. I know what it’s like to feel undervalued on your team, to feel disconnected from the team’s priorities, and to not know how to prove your value or advocate for yourself. I believe upskilling first-level managers is the first (and most critical) step towards solving these systemic issues.
